About Gardening Tips

An independent, plain-English guide to gardening in Australian conditions.

What we do

Gardening Tips helps Australians grow better gardens in their own climate. We publish guides on what to plant in each climate zone, growing citrus, tomatoes and herbs, composting, soil pH and soil types, mulching, water-wise gardening, native plants, lawn care, roses, and paths, edging and paving. Our planting tool shows indicative sowing times by zone and month.

About this domain

gardeningtips.com.au hosted a small gardening tips website in the early 2000s, covering topics such as composting, citrus, roses and lawns. It was later parked and listed for sale. The domain was relaunched in 2026 as an independent guide, and every page has been written from scratch. We aren't connected with any previous operator, and we don't sell plants, seeds or products.

How we research

We base our guides on authoritative sources, including:

  • ABC Gardening Australia;
  • state agriculture and primary industries departments and biosecurity agencies;
  • botanic gardens and native plant societies;
  • the Bureau of Meteorology and state health departments;
  • the Australian Government's Your Home guide, Weeds Australia and reputable reference works.

We list sources on every page and show when each guide was last updated. We don't invent statistics, test results or reviews. Read our editorial policy.

General information only

Our guides are general information. Conditions vary across Australia, so check local advice, follow your water authority's rules, check your state's weed and biosecurity rules, and read the label before using any garden chemical.

How we're funded

We may earn a commission from some links and from clearly labelled featured listings. This never affects what our guides say. See our editorial policy and feature your business page.
