Government Rebates on Rain Water Tanks
If you have been looking at buying a rain water tank there are a few considerations which need to be addressed. Firstly local councils are trying to encourage the purchase and installation of rain water tanks. Most Local Governments now have a rain water tank rebate scheme. This means that your local council may rebate a quantity of the overall cost of your tank. Your local water board may also be offering a rebate. In sydney Sydney Water offers the rebate scheme.
Councils offer these incentives to stop the use of town water for watering plants and to decrease the amount of town water used in the home. To insure that water tanks are being used for more than watering your garden many councils will only supply the rebate if your tank is plumbed into your house to a toilet or laundry.
When working out the rebate most councils have a scheme that depends on the size of the tank. The larger the tank the larger the rebate. Below is an example of how Sydney water works out how much of a rebate you may be entitled to.
